An extraction is when a tooth is removed. People usually choose to remove their tooth or teeth due to pain and discomfort or due to non-restorability (the tooth cannot be saved). Some patients have teeth removed to help facilitate better aesthetic outcomes. They want the final restoration to be beautiful and the position of teeth can affect how the new teeth will look. At times teeth are removed as insurance; the tooth or teeth is/are not in the best shape and/or are not a good size and after preparation can be a problem in the future resulting in loss of their newly made restoration. Regardless of why a patient chooses to remove their tooth or teeth it is important to know what the replacement plan is going to be so as to plan and prepare for the future restoration.
Patients have come to our office with horror stories about how the dentist didn’t take away the pain and it hurt the whole time. Some have had infections and poor healing for long periods of times because a piece of tooth was left behind or the infection was not removed. The dentist did not know how to control bleeding and the area bleed so much the patient ended up going to the emergency room. We take pride in saying that we do not have these complaints about our care. As a matter of fact patients return to us and say they wouldn’t go anywhere else for those types of services.
Removal of teeth in our office is virtually painless. We take extra time and effort comforting patients making sure they are numb so the exaction can go as smoothly as possible. Here in our office we include any and all post-operative visits in the cost of the extraction in an effort to encourage patient is to return to allow us to check the healing of the extraction site. Should there be a complication we address the problem and continue to see and treat the patient until they are better at no additional charge.
Depending on how loose or damaged the teeth are extractions can be simple and or complex. If you desire a future implant to replace the tooth additional procedures can be done at that time of removal to insure that the implant placement goes smoothly.
Because going to the dentist can create certain anxieties in patients’ we offer sedation options such as oral, intravenous, and nitrous oxide. Our goal always to foster a good doctor patient relationship based on patient comfort and quality care.
